And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me, it happens all the time

ceiling. for the past three hours, that was all adalia zabini had looked at. there was a significant crack that was seemed to get larger the more she stared at it just to the right of directly above her. after looking away to stare at her feet sticking up in her comforter for a while and glancing back up at the crack, her mind deemed it just a figment of her imagination brought on by staring at it for so long. a sigh escaped from her mouth as she swung the covers off of herself. this was never something she loved. for years, insomnia was something she had to deal with. not sleeping was something she had come to grip with. not being able to have dreams was something she missed frequently. daydreaming would only get her so far, as those were things that she could control. if she wanted to wander about her mind and think about what the world would be like if she took this ministry matter into her own hands with help from willing others, she would do as she pleased. having the pleasure of laying her head down to sleep and dream involuntarily about someone say like reese bletchley was something she had no control over.
adalia thought about this though, wondering if not being able to dream about him was a bad thing. for the hours that she did get to sleep, he frequented her dreams all on his own accord. at first, she had thought perhaps he had placed some kind of spell on her or slipped some rather hilarious potion into her pumpkin juice one morning. as they kept up their frequency and she did her best at staying away from him at the same time, her conclusion was expelled and she tried her best to come to grips with the fact that she was dreaming about the man she was supposed to marry. that wasn't something she really found herself familiar to. even dreaming about people was new to her, as her dreams mostly involved herself or scenarios that involved people she didn't even know. to have people she knew in her dreams was extremely rare. to have people she was going to marry once out of hogwarts was about as likely as her acting nice to a mudblood and being struck by lightning all at the same time. her feet touched down on the cold stone flooring, sending a shiver up her legs and throughout her body. the beginning of january, of course the dungeons were going to be cold. adalia never minded though. her blue eyes glanced towards the clock that was located in the dormitory where she slept, noticing that it was a little after one in the morning. the rest of her dorm mates were busy asleep, lucky them.
as she stood up from her bed, she let her body stretch for a moment before glancing around. there were plenty of things that she could do. after years of handling this, the possibilities of what do you sort of seemed endless. her favorite though still remained wandering around the castle or grounds. there were certain areas that she favored, one above the rest. the january snow and chilled area would not stop her from venturing outside to the black lake to spend some time. adalia slipped carefully across the floor to the end of her bed where her trunk sat. a tank top and silk shorts were hardly the clothing to wear outside. moments later, she was dressed in a pair of skinny jeans and sleeveless empire-waist shirt with a blazer covering over top. her family may not have that much money as they used to, but blaise and pansy made sure that their family at least did not look completely retched. her hands grabbed the scarf and coat that laid on top of the trunk as she made her way for the door after donning her boots. hopefully, the wind had died down for the night. both things dressed her as she walked through the empty common room, her eyes peering at the house elf who squeaked and vanished away from cleaning at her sight. there was a simple eye roll from adalia before exiting the commons and making her way for the outdoors.
she wouldn't lie and say that the brisk january air was something to wake her up. emerging into the entrance hall, adalia peered around. there was a slight scuffing noise that she wasn't sure if it came from towards the great hall or behind her, but it made her pause for a moment. when all seemed clear, towards the doors was the direction she made for. as the giant oak doors creeped open ever so slightly and she slipped the tiny way through into the outdoors, her face was met with cold air. then again, it was wintertime in scotland, so she was used to it by now. this being her seventeenth winter endured, all was repetitive by now. it was off towards the lake for her and she used to wand to magically cover her tracks leading away from the door. only when she got halfway to the lake did she stop, figuring that if any teacher had wandered out here, her distance away was enough for them not to be able to see the rest of her steps. by the time she had reached the frozen over lake, adalia didn't even doubt that her nose had turned red, but she didn't mind. the cold was where she loved to be, rather than in the heat. sweating was never.. pleasant. finding a decent spot near the shore of the lake, her wand was used once more to melt away an area of snow to reveal the grass underneath and then dry up the area enough for her to sit on it. oh, the benefits of magic. adalia couldn't imagine living without it.
as she sat down and curled her knees up to her chest though, magic wasn't what her mind fluttered around to think about. there were a few topic that wandered around in her head: her newly realized parentage, a close friend who became her brother in the matter of minutes, and reese bletchley and their upcoming wedding. as much as her mind tried to focus on anything except the latter of those, it failed and adalia mauled over the concept once more. arranged marriages had been going on in pureblood families for as long as anyone could remember, all to ensure that the bloodlines were to stay pure. adalia would do her part to honor her pureblood lines. it wasn't even reese that was the problem. how could he be? sure, he was slightly cocky and needed a serious kick off his high horse, but he was smashing. not only that, but they seemed to get along great. there was just the fact that adalia had no intentions of being the perfect little pureblood housewife. that just wasn't her, and she was sure that that was exactly that reese would want. letting a man control her and boss her around and who thought he could go out and do whatever (or whoever) he wanted did not fly with her. she was far too independent for that. but he was so gorgeous. that fact, she would never tell him. nor would she admit out loud that she felt herself attracted to him. adalia zabini, learn to love? it was like muggles learning magic.. or so she would assume.
