THE GENERAL RULES ,
when you apply for a character here at occultus
universitas, you are agreeing to the terms and rules
stated below. we suggest you read them, not only because
you need to in order to complete all sections of your
application, but to prevent possible confusion in the future.
ONE .
here at occultus universitas, we require you to read
and follow the proboards terms of service. under no
circumstances should you claim to have never seen or
heard of such thing, considering we've all had it waved
in front of our faces on more than one occasion. each
and every proboards site out there requires you to view
the terms of service, and we'd like to remind you to do so.
TWO .
for those who still need to be told like second graders,
this is a bully free zone. no one wants to roleplay with
a bunch of rude and disrespectful people, so let's help
to eliminate personal attacks. remember when speaking
either in the chat box or a thread, your written words
are public, and will be viewed by others on this site. keep
in mind that you will not be permitted to say offensive things,
and any problems or situations should be taken to and
handled by an administrator. however, this really shouldn't
be necessary if we all put on our maturity caps and get along.
THREE .
we do have a posting minimum. we hate to put out
restrictions, but this is an intermediate roleplay and
therefore, we'd like our members to be writing at the very
least, three hundred words per post. more is great, but less
really won't be tolerated. we understand writers block, and
we understand those non-creative days, but really, if you're
looking to join an intermediate site, three hundred words should
be your average post. there is a word count just under the
message box for your convenience. please use it to make
sure your post isn't too short. also, because we stress literacy
on this site, we require that you use the spell checker near
the word counter. spelling errors are unfortunate, and
therefore, we're working to prevent them. firefox, if you
aren't one the of the millions already using it, has a lovely built
in checker, if you're too lazy to want to press the spell check
button. please, proof read your posts before you post them.
we like things to sound and look nice around here.
FOUR .
this is a site rated 'm' for maturity. by joining, you are both
acknowledging and accepting the mature and controversial
content that you may find here. as far as sex, however, we
don't allow the dirty details here. you may fade into and out of
the act, but please don't turn your thread into your own
personal erotica. if you've read the terms of service, you'll
know that it is against the terms of service, and we don't wish
to have our site deleted because of a racy thread. anything
else that you feel people would like a warning on, please rate
your thread appropriately. it's common courtesy.
FIVE .
when you sign up for your account, we require that you register
in all capital letters, first and last name. this is to create
a uniform, nice look. on the canon list, we left the first names
up to you, because it's quite annoying to not have the
privilege of naming your own character. however, when naming
your character, we require that you be realistic. his or her name
isn't going to be bella swan, and your character
isn't going to have fifty middle names. be reasonable when
naming your character, and make sure to take into account
how you think others will feel about roleplaying with a sunshine-puff hippo-bunny.
SIX .
most people choose to make their first character a female,
and there's certainly not a problem with that. we're not going
to put a ban on either gender, but we'd like to ask you to keep
the ratios fairly even. if you have six female characters, i can
assure you that your heart will not stop if you make a male. the
limit is for every three female characters, you will need to make
a male. if this is a problem for you, there is a simple solution-
don't ever exceed three females. however, we'd like to see
you making male characters, or visa versa, every so often.
SEVEN .
inactivity is an unfortunate thing, but usually unavoidable. the
way we handle it here at occultus universitas is quite simple.
if an account has been inactive, meaning it hasn't been signed
onto in fifteen days, it will be sorted into the disabled
category. if said character is a canon, both the canon and
face claim will be free for others to claim. if the inactive
roleplayer returns, they must ask an admin to sort them back
into the correct category. they do not have to do another
application, but if they were a canon and that canon has been
taken, they must pick a new character. this extends to the face
claim also. if their face has been taken in their absence, they
must pick a new one. it's quite the hassle, and we advise you
to prevent the whole ordeal by just staying active.
EIGHT .
graphics and pictures are an important part of roleplay. however,
we prohibit you from using anime, cartoons, or anything that
isn't an actual human being. also, quality of graphics is important.
we'd like for you to use high quality, nice looking pictures, if you
can. if you're having trouble with this, we have members who
are willing to help with graphics and signatures. when sizing your
pictures, remember that anything too big will look horrid. our
only rule with sizing is that it shouldn't be taller than 300
pixels, and it had better not stretch our lovely board. similar
to how avatars can be on invisionfree sites, we have a code here
that enables you to choose the size of your avatar. minimum
size is 100x100 pixels, and maximum is 150x200 pixels. some
people like to have pictures and colorful words as the headers
of their posts, which is great. however, do not let the decor
distract you from the content of your post.
NINE .
when threading with more than one person, you will need
to keep a posting order. this is so things don't get messy
and disorganized. establish a posting order and follow it through
the entire thread. also, if you plan on leaving a thread or you
don't have muse/time/energy to finish it, which we don't
recommend, please let the people you're threading with know.
it's impolite to leave them hanging, wondering if you're ever
going to get around to replying.
TEN .
to sum everything up, here is a few short rules that should
be common sense, but most likely need to be restated for
those who tend to break these simple, basic rules. no god
modding, it's annoying and unattractive, so don't do it. don't
make a perfect mary-sue or gary-stu character, that's equally
as annoying and it reflects poorly upon your character. you
may not roleplay until you have been accepted, and once you
have, you need to apply in the claims. be patient when waiting
to be accepted, the administrators, though super human, have
lives also. post in the absence board when you're going to be
gone, no spamming, and no stealing. also, don't advertise any
site, regardless of whose it is, in the chat-box. absolutely no
exceptions.
